I love the prompt for today's challenge! In your own space, put some favorite characters into an AU, fuse some favorite canons together, talk about your favorite AU/fusion tropes, or tell us why AU/fusions aren’t your cup of tea.

I love AUs so much, and I love reading AUs that involve mythology, fairytales, and supernatural themes. I haven't written that kind of AU before, sadly, but I like writing fusions and crossovers between different fandoms, as well as fix-its and other canon-divergent AUs to explore what would've happened if something was a little different.

I'm gonna put some of my fave AU stories (plus my fave that I wrote) under the cut!

Phoenix by athena_crikey is a fantasy/magical realism AU of Endeavour, a detective TV show that was the first fandom I wrote for on AO3! This fic has so so much detailed worldbuilding and good plot, and I love almost all of this author's Endeavour fics because she's so good at that! I read it as the chapters came out, and it ended up being so long that I haven't felt like I could do the full reread it deserves, but it was such a good reading experience <3

Chosen Man by Sineala is another epically long AU of The Eagle of the Ninth book/movie, with the setting of a Roman military unit on the British frontier. It's mostly focused on the relationship of Marcus/Esca but there is plot too, and it has a great deal of historical detail and worldbuilding too! This author is amazing at historically detailed stories, and I recommend reading all of her Eagle stories.

To the Waters and the Wild by mrthology is an AU of The Old Guard where Nicky is a selkie and Joe is a human, and they meet as children and then later as adults! It's really romantic and sweet and has a wonderful sense of atmosphere, and I just love selkies, so it was just lovely to discover. It's also much shorter and less plot heavy than the previous two, and so I've reread it several times!

Sing, o Muse by Hevheia is an Iliad AU of The Old Guard! I love Homer and TOG, so it's a perfect combination! XD It's about Joe and Nicky starting on opposite sides of the Trojan War, gradually falling in love, and trying to end the war together. I feel like it also shows fate and destiny in a really interesting way, which I love since it's such an important concept in the Iliad and to Nicky in TOG!

Also, one of my favorite AUs I've written is Us against the world, for The Eagle of the Ninth, which was based on a joke from the Monty Python movie Life of Brian! It's kinda crack taken seriously?? Mostly just a silly scenario that becomes more serious and emotional as it goes on. It was fun to write though, lol XD

I'd love to try writing something similar to these AUs at some point, so maybe I'll make that another goal to try for this year!!!

I loved the prompt too, and I especially love the type of AUs you mentioned.
