Oh, Dreamwidth, I've missed you!! I haven't been very active/interested in fandom lately, but I've missed my friends on here and I've missed posting about my writing. I'm trying to do more writing lately, and I'm finally having less writer's block lately!! Hopefully being back on here will give me some more inspiration.

A lot has happened in my real life since I've been gone. I've had a retail job at a hardware store for about a year now, which I never really saw myself doing hahah but it's been pretty good so far! I like my coworkers and the department I work in for the most part, and it's definitely not my ideal career but it's been good for now and gives me good insurance XD

Also, I don't remember if I talked about this before, but I've been trying to get a job at a museum as my Real Big Girl Job. I feel like the universe really has my back lately and is helping me, because in the past few months I've also been working on a project to start a museum collection for a local organization! It's been moving slowly, but it's so exciting that things are finally happening in the museum area for me! If you guys would be interested (and are still around?), I'd love to post more about museum-y things. I don't feel like you'd mind though!

Anyway, that's how my life's been going! Hopefully you've all been well too <3

I wanted to do the Planner Snowflake Challenge that [community profile] journalsandplanners  hosted a while back but I didn't have time to get caught up on all the questions, so I was excited to see they're hosting the Journal Jam event now too! Please feel free to join in if you see this, I'd love to have more people on my reading page doing this too. Here's the first post if you're interested btw! (xxx)

Day 1:
Either here or in your own space, answer the following question: Have you ever pivoted/made a pretty big shift in journal/planner usage? What prompted it and what was the shift in usage?

I didn't really use planners very consistently for most of my life, but I started using one somewhat consistently in college. Then I started being a lot more consistent with it at the beginning of 2021, because I'd just found out I have ADHD and learned how important it would be for my life and mental health to figure out how to be more organized than I had been! My mom used the Franklin Planner system years ago, so she got me a Franklin Planner binder and starter set and also started using it again herself. We've both gotten more into the habit of using them, so it's been nice to kinda do that together!

I've really enjoyed it so far and I feel like it makes planning more fun, because they have lots of options for customization and different looks for the inserts you can buy, and I like that it has aspects that emphasize planning your whole life and not just day-to-day stuff. I've also gotten pretty into stickers for customization, too, which has been fun! One downside to Franklin Planner is that it's fairly expensive to get started, but I like not having to buy a whole new planner every year and just getting new inserts that still fit the same system, so I think it's worth it.

I'm doing the [community profile] snowflake_challenge  again this year! Challenge #2 is: In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

So, my goals are to write/finish the fanfic ideas I had from last year! I had a lot of ideas that I only started to write, for multiple different fandoms, and I also have a WIP for The Old Guard, Some Similar Experience, that has been taking an unfortunately long time for me to write. Another goal is to do more original writing.

More real-life goals are to do more cooking and baking, and to do lots of self-care in the next semester!

Hello, I'm SilverInk! Welcome to my journal!

I'm a fan and fic writer of many different fandoms, most of them very small and obscure — you can find my AO3
here. I'm doing a lot more original writing lately, too! I post a lot of fandom and writing related content on here as well as some personal stuff, which is sometimes friends only. I'm hoping to post more on here in the new year, and I want to post more about books I'm reading for fun or for school.

I'm 25 years old and just graduated from a college certificate program, and I'm now searching for my first Real Adult Job. I enjoy being creative through writing, baking, and sewing!

You can feel free to treat the comments on this post as a general Tumblr ask box and ask me whatever you want to know, or maybe send me writing prompts! Please introduce yourself if you feel like it!

It has been... Forever... since I've been on here!!! School's been keeping me very busy lately lol but I'm on break for Thanksgiving, so I wanted to try and post at least a little and talk about what I've been up to.

I'm working on a research paper for an art history class I'm taking, and it's about a Fayum mummy portrait called the Portrait of Isidora! I love the Fayum portraits, so it's been an interesting project, but unfortunately I put a lot of it off until the last couple of weeks so I'm pretty stressed now :( I think it's gonna turn out really cool though, hopefully!!

I'm gonna try to put a picture of the portrait here, hope it works haha XD

Portrait of Isidora from the J Paul Getty Museum

Since it's Thanksgiving break, I decided to take the first day, Saturday, off. I finished and published one fic and one new chapter, which felt so good because I've been having so much writer's block!! The first one was an AU of The Old Guard (The Artist and the Sailor) and the other was a new chapter of my TOG WIP Some Similar Experience! Really hoping I can finish that before the end of the year... Only two chapters left!

Also, I've been watching a new show, Turn: Washington's Spies on Netflix. Apparently it's going to be taken off Netflix on the 30th, so we're trying to get through it quickly before then!! It's about spies in the US during the Revolutionary War, and there's lots of interesting conflict between the British officers and the "American" townspeople, and British loyalists and rebels. I'm probably going to get into writing fic at least a little bit lol, there are just so many characters and relationships I love.

I've been doing a lot of volunteering lately for this fleamarket charity fundraiser in my city where people can bring their old furniture and other things to be sold for donations. The sale happens in a big parking garage, so some people need to be there during the night to make sure nothing happens to all the stuff that's there, and I've done two overnights this week! It was very fun and kinda felt like a sleepover, but my sleep schedule is so messed up now lol XD

Hopefully I can sleep well tonight and then make myself tired tomorrow and get on a more normal schedule! I'll prob be on here more tomorrow to answer comments and such!

Snowflake Challenge #7: In your own space, create your own challenge.

I wanted to come up with something really creative and interesting for this, but I'm not feeling super creative atm :( But I did come up with something, and so my challenge is: Think of something you're grateful for, and write it in the comments! It can be as big or small as you want. I've been trying to find something I'm grateful for daily in the new year, so if you want to join me in doing that, please feel free :D

I'm grateful for warm baths, because of the long bath I took earlier tonight! I made it a real pamper evening tbh. I put on a face mask (not the kind that prevents disease, the kind that helps your skin! My mom was a little confused when I said I wanted to use a face mask for my bath lol XD ), soaked in the bath, and read a book, and then I put on some lotion and a fluffy robe and read some more. It was so relaxing and invigorating, and definitely something to be grateful for <3

I recently (well, mid November-ish. I'm only just getting around to posting about it lol) attended an informational webinar about careers in museums and what kind of education you need for that, and I think this is officially what I want to do when I leave college! I've been thinking about museum work as a career option for a while, but I'm pretty convinced now. I love the idea of giving the general public access to history and educating them in a way that's available to anyone. I've pretty much always loved museums since I was a young child, and I want to give other people that same experience and love of history, especially kids. Museums are so important to educating people and making history interesting, and I'd just love to do something related to that! I'm not exactly sure what position I'd want, but I think I'd like to either be a curator or set up/arrange exhibits. Hopefully I'll be able to do an internship sometime this summer to learn more!

Also, I just got diagnosed with ADHD, so hopefully I can get meds and coping strategies that work for me for next semester. I'm going to get a Franklin planner soon, and I really think that'll help with organization for school and life in general. Very excited about having a good organization and planning system that I can personalize! In general, feeling positive and excited about the future <3

Quarantine's definitely been getting to me lately, and I've been struggling with my mental health a lot more. I'm trying to do some meditation to help me relax though, and I think that's helping. This weekend's been good, too—it was sunny here and I've been spending more time outside walking and jogging, my parents and I FaceTimed with my sister, we got takeout from Chipotle for dinner, and I made some pretty good progress on my [community profile] sutcliff_swap assignment. I can't wait to share that tbh, it's turning out well I think!

I have to write a paper and do a bunch of other things for school next week, but I'm gonna really try not to get overwhelmed. I should still have some time to relax, and I have something to look forward to at the end of the week: I finally decided to order Frontier Wolf from Amazon, and it should be here by the end of the week!! I probably shouldn't start reading it until the semester is over though, since I doubt I'll be able to put it down once I start!

Anyway, that's what my life's been like! Trying to stay positive, and hope all of you are doing well <3

Things are starting to get a little crazy around here. My university has moved all classes to online only, and I'm a little nervous about having to keep myself on track on my own more. I'll have to step up my organization game a bit, but I think I'll be ok! Fingers crossed!

People here have also been raiding the grocery stores for toilet paper, eggs, and other perishables and stocking up. I feel like the panic that's been going around is a little unnecessary, though I am worried about it, especially about my grandma and people I know who have underlying health conditions. I'm mostly worried about the effects on life in general rather than coronavirus itself tbh. I'm also kind of a hypochondriac, so I keep feeling like I'm getting sick lol.

On the plus side, I think having a bit of a break will be nice. I've been enjoying it so far: I've started reading Pompeii by Robert Harris, a historical fiction book about the last few days before Mt. Vesuvius erupted, and some of Rosemary Sutcliff's short stories. I've also been making good progress on my [community profile] sutcliff_swap story, which has been so fun so far! I also have an idea for an extra treat for one of the other prompts too, so I think I'll write that soon too... !! I've been trying to do some meditation and working on my mental state and more positive thinking as well.

Anyway, I hope all of you reading this are staying healthy, calm, and safe! Hopefully this will all blow over and things will get better soon. Xx

I’ve been thinking about The Eagle of the Ninth and why I love it so much (as you do), and I ended up writing kind of a long thing about it… It’s a little bit ramble-y, be warned lol!

I first read Rosemary Sutcliff’s The Eagle of the Ninth when I was twelve or thirteen, and to be honest, the first couple of chapters felt a little slow and boring to me. But I was already getting attached Marcus and his personality and his worldview, so I kept going, and of course it got much more interesting from there. I loved Esca, Cub, Cottia, Esca and Marcus’s relationship, and the thrilling adventure of the story so much, and I was so sad when the book was over. As soon as I finished it, I immediately flipped back to the beginning and read it a second time, which took at most three days, and I enjoyed it even more now that I knew and loved the characters and their stories. I think I read it a third time soon after that, too.

I just loved it so much. I loved that it was an adventure story set in ancient Roman Britain, I loved the detail and nature imagery, and most of all I loved the characters, especially Marcus. He was probably one of the first characters in a book/movie/media in general that I really felt like I related to: I’m sure other people have very different interpretations of him, but to me he’s always come across as a dreamer and an optimist, who was good to his friends but sometimes impatient and annoyed, very resilient, rather innocent about the world, and also strong and a badass. These were traits that I really related to, or that I wanted to have. I felt like Marcus was a lot like me only more confident, and that kinda inspired me to try to at least act more confident, which actually helped quite a bit.

It was many years until I actually reread The Eagle again after that, though I still thought about it on and off. But eventually I decided to read it again when my sister brought the book on a family camping/road trip over the summer. The first night of the trip, I was so excited for the opportunity to read it again that I read a good chunk of it in our tent instead of sleeping, while the wind roared outside. The atmosphere felt very fitting for reading The Eagle, and I was so happy that I still adored the story and related to Marcus just as much as before. I discovered new things that I relate to about him as well, like his struggle with not knowing what he’s going to do with his life after being injured. I also had even more appreciation for Esca just in general, and I found new things I related to about him as well, especially his loyalty to Marcus. It almost felt like coming home to realize this book still means so much to me after so long, and I was immediately inspired to write fanfic for it to express just how much I love the characters. I even kinda felt inspired to be more confident like I did when I first read it.

Anyway, I just wanted to talk about how much this book means to me tbh! Hopefully this wasn't too weird to read, and hopefully it was enjoyable! :D

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow American friends!

It's definitely been kinda a weird day for me - my parents and I have been kinda sick and didn't really do much to celebrate this year, but it was still nice to spend some quality time together. I think the plan is to have more of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow or this weekend though, once everyone is feeling more up to it. Anyway, I thought it would be appropriate to get a little sappy and share some of the things I'm grateful for this year:

I'm very thankful for my family and the close relationship I have with my parents, sister, aunts and uncles, and grandparents; they're just the best people ever tbh, and they're all so important to me. I'm also thankful that this school semester has been going so well; I feel like it's my best one so far, and I'm thankful for the new friends and experiences I've gotten this year, and also for my improved mental health, which has made so many of these other things possible. I'm thankful that I was able to go to Rome this summer, and that my sister's gap year has been going so well, even though I miss her.

And I could keep going, honestly! I have quite a lot to be thankful for this year, I'm realizing, it really has been a good year for me overall. Hoping this next year will be just as good and successful! <3

Since I've read both the Iliad and the Odyssey now, I feel the need to share the amazingly beautiful video summaries I found on YouTube from the channel Overly Sarcastic Productions... !! Me and some of my friends from class have been getting very invested in the stories and finding memes of them online, and these were some of my favorite vids that I found! :D

I'm back!

Yes I'm alive, and back from my unintentional hiatus! In general, school has been going well and I'm taking some really interesting classes; I've been reading The Iliad and The Odyssey for one of them, which has been fascinating and insightful! I also feel like I'm learning how to deal with stress and anxiety a little better this year than I have previously, which has made things feel so much easier. I've definitely been busy tho and I haven't had much time or motivation to write, sadly... I think I'm at least getting more motivation for writing back now, and I've been working on something that I'll hopefully be able to post soon!!

Sorry this was a little rambling, but I wanted to make some kind of update post since I've been gone for so long, so here we are! Anyway, hope you all have a great day/night! Xx

I have way too many ideas for fic projects & not enough time to write them!!! At least I have more free time now, but it still doesn't feel like enough time!

My biggest plans are:
  1. Finish my WIP "Incidemus"
  2. Write a Fandom Trumps Hate story for my friend
  3. Write something for Jedidiah/Octavius from Night at the Museum
  4. Finish & post a new Marcus/Esca AU story I've been working on
  5. Write an ancient Roman AU of The Mummy
  6. Possibly write something for Good Omens
Hopefully all this isn't too ambitious of me, but I don't really have huge plans this summer so I should be able to do most of it! XD

I just got home from Italy on Tuesday, & I'm already starting to miss it!! I loved always being surrounded by so much history, & it felt so good to be surrounded by people who love history as much as I do! It was such a beautiful experience, & I made so many wonderful memories & great friends, & I'll probably be throwing myself into classical studies even more after this experience! I'll definitely want to post more about it on here.

I was also able to buy a couple of books on ancient history in various museum gift shops, so I have quite a reading list for this summer! (Under the cut if you're interested) I'm usually kind of a slow reader, so hopefully I can get through all the reading I want to.

Reading list )

I just finished my last class of the semester today! Now I just have to make it through finals week, & then I'm leaving for three weeks to study abroad in Italy! I've been taking a class to prepare for the study abroad, & honestly it's been pretty stressful for me & I've had some trouble with my anxiety, but now that the prep is almost over I'm able to focus more on the excitement of getting to go to Italy. Still very much feeling scared though. I'm hoping I can overcome my fears & really enjoy this, & maybe it'll help me to be braver in the future!

Any words of encouragement would be much appreciated <3

I'm definitely upset and disappointed that Tumblr's changing it's policies so much, & tho I don't plan on deleting my Tumblr or anything, I'm excited that it's allowing my circle on this platform to grow! I've already gotten like 4 new followers since the announcement on Tumblr, I hope this site continues to become more popular!

So if you want, come & say hi!! <3

Hey all! So I'm not super sure how this site works, & I've only ever used Tumblr for fandom related things (and AO3 for fic, of course!), but I'm excited to figure it out. Let's do this!
