silverinkI found this character development meme oneller's journal! It looked so interesting and fun, and I wanted to try it with the characters from my Laudatio Turiae Story (my very creative working title)!! I first posted about this a while ago now, so here is the intro post for it if you want the basics of the story! I'll be answering for both Lucretia and Marcus, the main characters who are a married couple.
-What genre of music do they listen to the most? Would people assume they would like that style of music or is it wildly unfitting to their appearance? (ie; cutesy pastel girl likes heavy metal)
Hmm idk what music people played/listened to in ancient Rome?? I feel like Lucretia likes music though, but Marcus is probably more neutral.
-In terms of power scaling in-universe, are they about as strong as everyone else, stupidly overpowered, extremely weak, etc?
They're about as strong as everyone else, but Marcus is a soldier so I bet he's quite a bit stronger than average civilians. But Lucretia also does a lot of sewing/weaving/etc because she is a proper Roman lady, and I feel like that would give you some muscles, so Lucretia isn't exactly weak but she's more average.
-Their playlist. Drop their playlist (or, if it's extremely long, the most fitting songs on it) and include specific lyrics from each song you consider to be the most fitting. Explanation not required but you can if you feel like it! Do not care about cringe. It is fun.
I made a playlist for both of them together at some point, but I don't think it's finished and also I feel a little embarrassed about the weird mix of music I put in playlists XD I might still share it sometime though!
-Make a moodboard and/or stimboard for them! Remember to source your images! (And preferably use a royalty-free image site such as Unsplash instead of Pinterest!)
Again, I think I made a moodboard for them/the story at some point but idk where it is now? And again, maybe I'll post that sometime too!!
-If their personality has changed drastically over development, what's something that was once true about them that is now absolutely absurd to imagine and false?
Their personalities haven't changed too much since I got the idea for the story. Little things about them have changed some, but their basic personalities are the same.
-When it comes to food, are they more into savoury, salty, sweet, sour, spicy etcetc food? Are they picky with their food or will they eat just about anything that isn't spoiled?
Neither of them are particularly picky, but Lucretia especially likes sweet, and both of them like spicy food.
-In your opinion, do you think if they were real you would be friends with them or not?
I think I would! I'd like to think we'd be friends XD
- ^ Relating to above question, do they consider themself easy to get along with, and is that actually true?
I think they do, and it's pretty true!
-Have you ever tried to make them in a character creator? If so, share pictures (if you have them)!
Yes I have!!! I was excited for this question lol. I made them on Doll Divine, which has been my favorite character creator website since I was like 15 lol XD I used the Disney Prince Creator for Marcus, and the Greek Lady Creator for Lucretia. I think they have a Roman lady too, but I just liked the Greek one better. I did a few different versions of her, but I think I like the first one best so that's the one I included. It just seems like more of her vibe tbh, and I think that's more of how I picture her.
For some reason DW is saying this post is too big to post and I think it's because I included the pics, so I think I'll post them separately and maybe link that here. EDIT: ok here is the link where you can hopefully see the pictures!
-Do you have a voice claim for them?
No! That's an interesting idea though. But I think Lucretia has a deep voice for a woman and that often catches people's attention, and Marcus also has a deep voice that is usually pretty soft, but can be loud and intimidating if he wants to.
-What's their "theme" color? What color do you associate with them? Is it in their color scheme or just a color that reminds you of them?
I associate yellow and gold a lot with Lucretia! I think it's also her color scheme, because I feel like she likes bright colors and lots of jewelry. I kinda associate purple with her too, but I'm pretty sure only Emperors wore that at the time, so I can't put her in that sadly :(
I think I associate green with Marcus. Probably mostly darker colors. I associate red and silver with him too! I also kinda associate purple with him, but again the same problem that he's not an Emperor. He definitely wears a lot of red since he's a Roman general, but I think he likes green in more casual settings, and he likes wearing rings and bracelets. They also both love dressing up.
-Would you consider them well-liked in universe, or are they more an... acquired taste?
I think they're both well-liked! Lucretia likes to help people financially when possible and so they appreciate that, and Marcus is liked and respected by his men in the military.
- ^ What about outside of canon? Are they one of your more well-liked characters?
I haven't written or shared much about them yet, so idk! Feel free to share your thoughts if you read this!!
-What do they smell like? If unsure of specifics scent-wise, do they smell good, overly-soaked in perfume, like trash etcetc?
Lucretia wears perfume usually but not too much, and idk I think Marcus usually smells good! I feel like he rides horses a lot and gets gross and sweaty fighting The Barbarians, but he definitely likes using the bathhouses and likes to get clean as soon as possible.
-What would their theme song/leitmotif be titled? What would it sound like, if you have an idea?
I have no idea!
-Are they a projection of yourself in any way? How similar are they to you?
Yes lol they're both pretty similar to me in some ways! Lucretia is very feminine and loves dressing nicely, but she's also capable, smart, charming, and creative, which is what I at least want to be! I'm giving her some of my ADHD strengths/difficulties as well lol, and I feel like it'll be fun to write that in such a cool character.
Marcus kinda has more of the "masculine energy" vibe that I feel sometimes. That's not really a big part of my outward personality/presentation, but I definitely feel a lot of masculine energy inwardly. He's adventurous and protective and a warrior, and I relate to that vibe to some degree! Both of them are also romantic softies, which I definitely relate to <3
-Are they capable of holding their own in a fight or are they laughably easy to beat?
Oh yes, Marcus is more than capable of holding his own and kicking ass. Lucretia can't really fight well, but she'd try if she had to, and she mostly just finds ways of avoiding a fight altogether lol.
-Do they swear often? On occasion? At All?
Marcus does sometimes I think, but probably not Lucretia. She swears very occasionally, but that's how you know the situation's Serious.
-How do they text people? Lots of exclamations? All lowercase? Very Serious And Grammatically Correct? 1 Billion Emojis? Cutesy uwu speak? Etc etc.
Obviously these characters don't have phones lol, but I think if they did, Marcus would be Grammatically Correct with lots of exclamations, and Lucretia would use lots of emojis, often nonsensical ones that she just thinks are cute XD
-How easy is it to befriend them? How easy is it to make them hate you?
I think it's pretty easy to make friends with both of them! If you insult/are rude to/disrespect one of them, the other will probably hate you, or at least really dislike you. It generally takes kind of a lot to get either of them to really hate someone.
-How do they prefer to be referred to? First name, last name, nickname, another alias entirely etc?
Lucretia likes being referred to by first name, and Marcus likes first name with friends and family, and last name with other soldiers/the military.
-Compared to the rest of your cast, are they tall or short?
I don't really have the rest of my cast figured out yet, but I think Marcus is pretty tall and Lucretia is quite a bit shorter.
-Are they a dog or cat person? Neutral? Do they prefer another animal entirely?
Marcus loves horses! They have a couple of horses that they both love, but they're mostly Marcus's babies. <3 I think maybe they have a dog too, and they love their dog.
-Do they know what a sigma male is. Be honest.

-How do they react to being loved and/or cared for? Similarly, how do they express their love for others?
Marcus: I think he tries to act indifferent in public (successfully or unsuccessfully, I'm not sure; and he does this less as he gets older), but when he's alone with friends/family who care for him and love him, he lets them take care of him and enjoys it and shows appreciation, because he's very soft for them. He shows he cares for other people mainly through the "love languages" of physical affection, words of affirmation, and acts of service.
Lucretia: she appreciates and enjoys being loved and cared for, and she shows this appreciation freely, because she is also very soft for those people. She shows love and care for other people through the "love languages" of physical touch, acts of service, and gift giving. She does this especially by financially helping family members and friends, and she and Marcus are very physically affectionate with each other.
-How do they react to being disliked? Similarly, how do they express their distaste for others?
Lucretia often feels hurt by learning that someone dislikes her, and she either tries to avoid the person or be extra nice to them to try to convince them to change their mind about her. She's a classy woman, so she isn't outright rude to people she dislikes, but she is often politely chilly to them. Marcus doesn't care as much about being disliked, but in the military he wants to still be respected for his rank. When he dislikes someone, he's often fairly cold to them but still polite and civil.
-What Pokémon type(s) would they be?
Ditto to what Eller said: no idea, I'm not into Pokémon.
-Are they the type to be chaotic and reckless or are they more the type to think before they act?
Lucretia definitely thinks before she acts! Marcus usually does as well, but he's sometimes a bit more reckless.
-Are they an open book or hard to read emotions-wise?
I think both of them are pretty easy to read, but can hide emotions from people who don't know them well.
-Can they keep a secret?
Yes, they're both good at keeping secrets.
-What are some things you associate with them? Certain aesthetics, items, colors, feelings, tastes etc! Anything goes!
Lucretia: flowers; hot, sunny weather; planning and organization; bravery; sewing; flowing dresses; yellow; confidence; loving and caring for people; strong emotions.
Marcus: horses; trees; rain; confidence and leadership; Rosemary Sutcliff protagonist vibes; purple; green; protectiveness; watching the moon and stars; emotional vulnerability.
-What role do they serve in the story? Are they a main character, side character, antagonist, protagonist etc?
Lucretia and Marcus are both main characters.
-What's the meaning behind their name?
Lucretia's full name is Lucretia Marcella, and Marcus's is Marcus Turius Marcellus. I chose those names because I was originally going to use the names associated with the Laudatio Turiae, Turia and Quintus Lucretius Vespillo, but then I decided to use different names. I still wanted to keep some association with the original names though, so I changed her name to the feminine version of the husband's second name, and changed his name to the masculine version of the wife's name! And then I just liked the names Marcus and Marcellus/Marcella!
-What inspired you to create them?
I read the Laudatio Turiae eulogy for a class years ago, and thought it would make a fascinating story! I originally tried to base the characters perfectly on the historical figures it was believed to be about, but I felt like I was getting too bogged down with details, and so I based them more loosely on the historical figures and followed parts of their personalities/stories mostly from the eulogy itself.
-FREE SPACE! Drop some miscellaneous fun facts, tell us their backstory, do whatever! Go wild!
Marcus was Lucretia's childhood friend's older brother. They became good friends as children and started to fall in love as they got older, and their parents set them up to eventually get married. I can't really think of anything else, but if anyone has questions I'm happy to answer!
