Luca (2021)
Aug. 9th, 2021 01:07 am I just finished watching Pixar's new movie Luca a little bit ago, and it was honestly one of the cutest, funnest movies I've seen in a long time!! I'll put my thoughts under a cut (which will hopefully work this time lol) so I don't spoil it for anyone!
So, before I saw it, I'd seen a bunch of other people on social media talking about how it's a really strong metaphor for being gay, and while I can kinda see it, I'm not sure I entirely agree. I love the theme of the underdog "weird" kids becoming friends and sticking together, and I don't really think it needs to be more than that. I really just like it as a fluffy, feel good movie! I think I see it as more of a metaphor for neurodivergent kids finding each other and trying to prove themselves to the world, if anything!
I love Luca's imagination and sense of wonder so much, and I love Alberto helping him be brave and adventurous! I'm going to be saying "silenzio Bruno" to the anxious voice in my head from now on! XD They were such a wonderful pair, and Alberto kinda reminds me of some of the extroverted people I've met who helped me come out of my shell <3
I love all the relationships in this movie too, especially the three main characters, plus Giulia's dad Massimo! Also the cat was adorable and I love how he looks exactly like Massimo and goes everywhere with him! I really hope Luca and Giulia write to Alberto from school and tell him about everything they're learning and doing. And maybe he eventually goes to school with them!!
Ahhhh anyway this was such a good, good movie! Definitely watch it! I need to stop rambling now and go to sleep haha XD
