About Me
Hello, I'm SilverInk! Welcome to my journal!
I'm a fan and fic writer of many different fandoms, most of them very small and obscure — you can find my AO3 here. I'm doing a lot more original writing lately, too! I post a lot of fandom and writing related content on here as well as some personal stuff, which is sometimes friends only. I'm hoping to post more on here in the new year, and I want to post more about books I'm reading for fun or for school.
I'm 25 years old and just graduated from a college certificate program, and I'm now searching for my first Real Adult Job. I enjoy being creative through writing, baking, and sewing!
You can feel free to treat the comments on this post as a general Tumblr ask box and ask me whatever you want to know, or maybe send me writing prompts! Please introduce yourself if you feel like it!
My Fandoms:
- The Old Guard
- Rosemary Sutcliff novels, esp. The Eagle of the Ninth and Frontier Wolf
- Turn: Washington's Spies (kind of - sadly I only found the show in 2021 after it had been over for 4 years :'( )
- The Mummy
- Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
- S <3

Also, which classical civilization do you specialize in or find the most interesting? The Greeks had the best God drama, but I do have a fondness for the sheer excess and audacity of Rome.

Yes, please feel free to look thru my fics! I have a lot of tiny fandoms, but hopefully you'll find something of interest :D
I'm interested in Greece and Rome (and Egypt, but my college doesn't have many classes on that), but I think Rome is my main specialty. I agree, I love the Greek god drama and I love how dramatic and crazy and excessive the Romans were too! There's a lot I find interesting about both of them, but I really like the poetry and literature, and their military strategy and weapons are fascinating too.

Ooh books! What's one of your favorite books you've read for school?
no subject
I read a lot of books for my major so I have a few I loved tbh!! The main ones I can think of right now are "SPQR" by Mary Beard, and also the Iliad, the Odyssey, and the Aeneid. I was also very proud of myself for reading the Iliad, the Odyssey, and the Aeneid all in one semester lol XD

I didn't know it's on Tumblr! That's awesome that it's available on different platforms! And yeah, Tumblr's pretty different from journals tbh, but it's fun once you figure it out. I'd also def recommend checking out the Fantastic Beasts tag on AO3! There's a lot of good stuff there!

I checked out the list of fandoms you've written in and just wanted to say The Mummy FTW! *g*

!!! Another Mummy fan! :D It's one of my favorite movies haha XD

Don't feel obliged to grant me access to your locked stuff. I know I'm a total stranger. I granted you access to mine because I've been keeping mine locked...well, mostly against Google bots, really. Not so much against actual people.
no subject
No worries! And that's fair, bots are no good tbh. I checked out your journal a little and saw we had some stuff in common, so I think I'll add you too :D
Thoughts
>> Classical Studies and History.<<
That's cool. Some my writing is historic.
>> I also love languages and I speak Spanish and Arabic (not fluently though). <<
Yo hablo un poquito EspaƱol. The hilarious thing is that, even though I haven't actively studied it in years, it has kept growing inside my brain. I can now parse a lot of stuff that I know didn't get covered in one year. I am linguistic SillyPutty.
Are you into constructed languages? That's a favorite of mine.
>>I'm hoping to post more on here in the new year, and I want to post more about books I'm reading for fun or for school.<<
I recommend recurring posts for those goals. They make it easy to plan out what you want to write, and they minimize effort.
I invite you to drop by my blog and see if you like it. I'm doing a Poetry Fishbowl on Tuesday, January 5 with a theme of "Short Forms." If you like Spanish forms of poetry, some of those are short, though I'd be writing them in English. I've done some Arabic ones too.

I can't recall if you were 23 last year or not, but did you graduate, or are you graduating May 2022?

I was 22 last year, and I'm graduating May 2022!

Congrats on being almost done! Good luck with the next semester!
Hello!
Go you!
>>I'm hoping to post more on here in the new year, and I want to post more about books I'm reading for fun or for school.<<
Consider recurring posts for that.
>> I am a 23 year old college student majoring in Classical Studies and History, and I'm going to graduate in May 2022. <<
That sounds cool.
>> I also love languages and I speak Spanish and Arabic (not fluently though), <<
Check your DVDs. Almost all of them should have a Spanish track, since it's a world language. Some might have Arabic, I've seen way more obscure options on there. Watching a movie you already know in a new language helps your brain make connections with the words.
Re: Hello!
Ooh yeah I've been trying to do weekly "what I've been reading/watching" posts, but haven't been the best at sticking to it. Your post has some great ideas in it tho and I really want to try some of them out, they look fun!!
I'd definitely like to improve my language skills tbh, and I like the idea of watching a movie I already know in a new language! I also think finding movies in a different language and putting on English subtitles is helpful too.
Hope you have a great day!!
Re: Hello!
I'd never keep track of my recurring posts without a desktop calendar.

Yeah, I really like subtitles. They help me follow along.
Hope you have a great day!!

Hi! :D I came across your response on one of
ysabetwordsmith's recent posts and thought your username seemed very familiar. You took part in multifandomdrabbles last year, right? With a prompt for The Old Guard? Really delighted to see you on DW too (outside of the exchange I meant lmao omg) and thank you for introducing me to the movie!
no subject
And yes! I did multifandom drabble last year and the year before!! I think I requested The Old Guard for that last year, but I didn't write anything for it. I've written other TOG stories based on prompts from The Old Guard Kinkmeme and some Tumblr posts though! And you're very welcome for introducing you to it :D Thanks for reaching out!!!
no subject
It was the planner snowflake post, and yeah I'm doing it too :) I'm not consistently within the TOG fandom, but I've read some fics (including yours now that I've checked hehehe) and knowing the film exists is like a new world opened up in front of me
Congrats for graduating soon btw!!! I'm gonna grad this year too and as a stem major I don't really know much about classical studies and history but they sound so impressive? Does what you study help you with writing for your fandoms? :O They seem to overlap quite a bit!
And what made you interested in these disciplines (is it two majors or one)? I'm v curious bc I always want to learn more history, but it's so vast I don't know where to begin asidaoda
no subject
Ahh I hope you enjoyed them!! And yes the movie's such a beautiful experience! I love the theme of positivity and humanity and how much backstory they have to explore in fic <3
And thanks!!! Congrats to you too! Haha stem is super impressive to me too! It's kinda hard to keep up with reading and papers for my majors, but I feel like it'd be harder for me to learn and keep up with stem. It def helps with my fandoms!! I've taken some classes on the Middle Ages, and last semester I learned about the Crusades which kinda made me want to write a more historically focused Joe/Nicky meeting story. A lot of my other fandoms are historical too!
It's two different majors, and classical studies is about ancient Greece and Rome (and kinda Egypt)! I've always been interested in Greek mythology tbh and it turned into love of history too!! I've mostly focused on ancient history and some later stuff, so I kinda recommend just starting with a country/period you're interested in! What made you want to study stem btw? :D
no subject
Discourse in the TOG fandom you mean? :O
Haha omg the nice thing about stem is that typically undergrad courses don't make you do readings or papers. They might make you do math though. Like a bunch of it o-o Doesn't really help me in the fic writing department ajsiodan and it can be really hard but also quite fun at times :)) I've always taken more science classes in high school and my local universities don't offer much of a diversity in majors, and back then I couldn't really imagine myself studying much else. (Now it might be a different story hahaha.) So why not? :]
And ooh a double major :O Dang I imagine there's gotta be a lot of readings.
History's gotta be very broad though right? What's the difference between classical studies (on ancient Greece/Rome/Egypt) and doing history focused in those eras?
