About Me

Hello, I'm SilverInk! Welcome to my journal!

I'm a fan and fic writer of many different fandoms, most of them very small and obscure — you can find my AO3
here. I'm doing a lot more original writing lately, too! I post a lot of fandom and writing related content on here as well as some personal stuff, which is sometimes friends only. I'm hoping to post more on here in the new year, and I want to post more about books I'm reading for fun or for school.

I'm 25 years old and just graduated from a college certificate program, and I'm now searching for my first Real Adult Job. I enjoy being creative through writing, baking, and sewing!

You can feel free to treat the comments on this post as a general Tumblr ask box and ask me whatever you want to know, or maybe send me writing prompts! Please introduce yourself if you feel like it!

My Fandoms:
- The Old Guard
- Rosemary Sutcliff novels, esp. The Eagle of the Ninth and Frontier Wolf
- Turn: Washington's Spies (kind of - sadly I only found the show in 2021 after it had been over for 4 years :'( )
- The Mummy
- Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
- S <3

Hi! Allow me to introduce myself (...I'm a man of wealth and taste~). I'm Bun or Bunny. Not sure if you saw my addme post, but I'm always happy to have new friends! I'm going to start digging through your AO3 fics, if that's ok, because your variety of fandoms is intriguing.

Also, which classical civilization do you specialize in or find the most interesting? The Greeks had the best God drama, but I do have a fondness for the sheer excess and audacity of Rome.

I'll have to pick your brain sometime. I took three years of Latin in high school and have forgotten it all. Most of what I know about the period comes from a comparative literature class I took, examining the similarities between Greek, Roman, Babylonian, Norse, and Indo-Aryan myths. Super cool stuff!

Gosh, I really wish I kept my notes for the class. It was really engaging. If you're interested in Indo-Aryan myth, I would suggest looking through selected passages of the Rigveda. The parallels between Indra/Vtra and other ancient myths, the most obvious I can think of being the much later stories of Sigurd/Fafnir, is really cool!

Hi! I recently tarted using my dw more often, and it's been quite nice. It's a very different space than Tumblr, but sometimes that's really what I'm craving.

Ooh books! What's one of your favorite books you've read for school?

Ohh SPQR is something I've been wanting to read! And that's super impressive--you should be very proud :)

Hello from Snowflake! I hope you'll enjoy the challenges! You know it's on Tumblr, too? I've still not got used to Tumblr and I prefer journals - and I'm still only in the HP fandom, not even in the Fantastics Beasts, which I saw in your AO3 list!

I'm impressed that you speak both Spanish and Arabic (even if not fluently *g*). I took Spanish in middle school and a semester of Russian in college, but didn't get any further than that. Learning a different language is something I'd like to do.

I checked out the list of fandoms you've written in and just wanted to say The Mummy FTW! *g*

Hi there! Just came in through the snowflake challenge, and I liked your journal so I figured I'd follow.

Don't feel obliged to grant me access to your locked stuff. I know I'm a total stranger. I granted you access to mine because I've been keeping mine locked...well, mostly against Google bots, really. Not so much against actual people.

Thoughts

Hi, I'm here from Snowflake.

>> Classical Studies and History.<<

That's cool. Some my writing is historic.

>> I also love languages and I speak Spanish and Arabic (not fluently though). <<

Yo hablo un poquito EspaƱol. The hilarious thing is that, even though I haven't actively studied it in years, it has kept growing inside my brain. I can now parse a lot of stuff that I know didn't get covered in one year. I am linguistic SillyPutty.

Are you into constructed languages? That's a favorite of mine.

>>I'm hoping to post more on here in the new year, and I want to post more about books I'm reading for fun or for school.<<

I recommend recurring posts for those goals. They make it easy to plan out what you want to write, and they minimize effort.

I invite you to drop by my blog and see if you like it. I'm doing a Poetry Fishbowl on Tuesday, January 5 with a theme of "Short Forms." If you like Spanish forms of poetry, some of those are short, though I'd be writing them in English. I've done some Arabic ones too.

Hi! I see you've added The Old Guard to your fandoms! ♥

I can't recall if you were 23 last year or not, but did you graduate, or are you graduating May 2022?

I am in The Old Guard fandom like I'm in a lot of fandoms, lol, sporadically. I binge read, then dive into something else, then come back . . .

Congrats on being almost done! Good luck with the next semester!

Hello!

>>I'm doing a lot more original writing lately, too! <<

Go you!

>>I'm hoping to post more on here in the new year, and I want to post more about books I'm reading for fun or for school.<<

Consider recurring posts for that.

>> I am a 23 year old college student majoring in Classical Studies and History, and I'm going to graduate in May 2022. <<

That sounds cool.

>> I also love languages and I speak Spanish and Arabic (not fluently though), <<

Check your DVDs. Almost all of them should have a Spanish track, since it's a world language. Some might have Arabic, I've seen way more obscure options on there. Watching a movie you already know in a new language helps your brain make connections with the words.

>> Ooh yeah I've been trying to do weekly "what I've been reading/watching" posts, but haven't been the best at sticking to it. Your post has some great ideas in it tho and I really want to try some of them out, they look fun!! <<

I'd never keep track of my recurring posts without a desktop calendar.

>> I'd definitely like to improve my language skills tbh, and I like the idea of watching a movie I already know in a new language! I also think finding movies in a different language and putting on English subtitles is helpful too.<<

Yeah, I really like subtitles. They help me follow along.

Hope you have a great day!!

Hi! :D I came across your response on one of [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith's recent posts and thought your username seemed very familiar. You took part in multifandomdrabbles last year, right? With a prompt for The Old Guard? Really delighted to see you on DW too (outside of the exchange I meant lmao omg) and thank you for introducing me to the movie!

It was the planner snowflake post, and yeah I'm doing it too :) I'm not consistently within the TOG fandom, but I've read some fics (including yours now that I've checked hehehe) and knowing the film exists is like a new world opened up in front of me

Congrats for graduating soon btw!!! I'm gonna grad this year too and as a stem major I don't really know much about classical studies and history but they sound so impressive? Does what you study help you with writing for your fandoms? :O They seem to overlap quite a bit!

And what made you interested in these disciplines (is it two majors or one)? I'm v curious bc I always want to learn more history, but it's so vast I don't know where to begin asidaoda

Discourse in the TOG fandom you mean? :O

Haha omg the nice thing about stem is that typically undergrad courses don't make you do readings or papers. They might make you do math though. Like a bunch of it o-o Doesn't really help me in the fic writing department ajsiodan and it can be really hard but also quite fun at times :)) I've always taken more science classes in high school and my local universities don't offer much of a diversity in majors, and back then I couldn't really imagine myself studying much else. (Now it might be a different story hahaha.) So why not? :]

And ooh a double major :O Dang I imagine there's gotta be a lot of readings.

History's gotta be very broad though right? What's the difference between classical studies (on ancient Greece/Rome/Egypt) and doing history focused in those eras?
